Dairy Free Recipes: Chocolate Souffle

Tuesday, December 23, 2014

Hello there!

Today I wanted to share a recipe that I have become pretty obsessed with.
The original recipe is from WeightWatchers.com, so there is no need to blow your diet over something sweet.

I'm not sure if I already covered it, but I am lactose intolerant, so milk and dairy products are a big no-no for me. This recipe was super easy to modify for my dairy free diet and even easier to modify for the holidays!

Dairy Free Chocolate Souffle
Ingredients
  • 2 Sprays of Cooking Spray
  • 1 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • I Tbsp All-Purpose Flour
  • 3 Tbsp Granulated Sugar, divided
  • 3 Tbsp Sweetened Chocolate Almond Milk
  • 1 Large Egg White
  • 1/2 tsp Powdered Sugar
Instructions
  • Preheat oven to 350ºF. Coat two 6 oz ramekins with cooking spray.

  • In a small saucepan, whisk together cocoa, flour and 2 tablespoons granulated sugar; set over medium heat. Add milk; cook until smooth, stirring constantly, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat; cool for about 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk egg white until soft peaks start to form. Slowly add remaining tablespoon granulated sugar and continue beating until soft peaks form. Fold cooled chocolate mixture into egg whites, a little at a time, until no white streaks appear.
  • Pour batter into prepared ramekins; bake until set and tops look slightly dry, about 14 to 16 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar; serve warm. Yields 1 soufflé per serving.

And that's it!

I use almond milk, but you can totally use any kind of milk or milk substitute. You also don't need it to be chocolate flavored, but it makes it a little sweeter.

To make it the perfect desert for holiday, add a few crushed peppermint candy canes on top and voila!

Enjoy!

Make Up Review: Lime Crime Velvetine VS NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Hello again! Today I'm here to bring you my review of Lime Crime's Velvetines VS NYX's Soft Matte Lip Creams.

In the Matte Lip World, these two names are thrown around as being the top contenders.

So you want to know which is better, huh?

Well, I'll give you my review and then you decide!

Above is a picture of both matte lipsticks side by side. I avoided using filters so that you could get a good feel for how they really are. (This is not a color review, just a product review.)

I want to start by saying that I LOVE both of these products and I would definitely recommend both, but I'll break it down for you know what to expect from both.

Overall: A

Velvetines

This lip product is AMAZING.  It coats your lips with an extremely pigmented punch of color that dries to a velvet-like finish. It's long-wear formula means it stays on all day, even through meals (of course, depending on what you are eating). With no interference, the color stays on all day long like you just put it on. You'll get compliments for days! I would have given it an A+, but the price is definitely a little steep, especially because if you want all the colors, you will be left dead broke. Also, the Lime Crime website is frequently sold out of product, which makes it difficult to purchase. Neither of those grievances have anything to do with the actual product itself, which, like I said, is UH-MAZING, but they are worth noting.

Overall: A-

Once you try a NYX product, you instantly become hooked to the brand. Their lip products are absolutely to die for! I love, love, love their Soft Matte Lip Creams. This product features a liquid to matte formula that doesn't dry out your lips. They come a wide array of colors from nudes to reds to purples. It stays on fairly well during the day, but it does come off quite a bit if you drink or eat something. Reapplying once during the day is totally not a big deal. The biggest appeal of this awesome product is the fact that it is super affordable. You can stock up without breaking the bank. I only rated this product a A- because the color doesn't stay on quite as long as I'd like and you need about two coats to get the color and opacity that you want. But this is a definite go to product for me, so don't let that discourage you.

The Verdict:

If you want bright colors you can't find anywhere else and a product with long lasting color, definitely invest in some Lime Crime products. Lime Crime is a fantastic company and they help you express your individuality with products that make you gorgeous! (Plus, have you seen the creator Doe Deere?? Sign me up to use everything she uses!)
But if you are looking for an awesome deal and an equally fantastic product, definitely pick yourself up some NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. At $6 a pop, you can experiment and build your beauty stock pile at a fraction of the price of one Velvetine. Plus, if you head over to Ulta, you can always use their coupons on NYX and often feature sales for the product, as well!

But seriously, they are BOTH amazing!

Which is your favorite?

Holiday Greetings!

Monday, December 8, 2014

It's that magical time of year where we gather friends and family together to celebrate the holidays. We get to dust off our favorite decorations and set up our Christmas trees, and enjoy the same songs that fill us with holiday cheer every year.

My absolute favorite thing about the holidays is creating the large, extravagant meals for everyone. But what good is a beautiful meal without a beautiful table setting??

No good at all, I tell ya!

So today I am going to show you how I created a beautiful table setting without breaking the bank.

You definitely don't have to spend much to get a place setting that reflects your aesthetics. There are fantastic deals EVERYWHERE, if you know where to look.

So here is the list of where you can purchase most of the items pictured above or how to get the look with a little DIY.

1.  Gold Dotted Square Placemats from TjMaxx $14.99 for a set of 4
2. Plaid Fabric Napkins from TjMaxx $4.99 for a set of 4.
3. Striped Flatware from Target $24.99 for set of 4
4. Plates and Light Pink Bowls from Ikea $2.99/ea and $4.99/ea
5. Gold Rimmed Glasses $1/ea from Dollar Tree!
6. Wine Glasses $1.99/ea from Ikea
7. Silver Tinsel Christmas Tree $1 at Dollar Tree
8. Gold Candle Holders and Gold Candles. These were passed down through the family, but its nothing that a holder from Dollar Tree and gold stray paint can't create! The Gold candles came from Target $4.99 for a pack of 2.

So, I should note that some of these items I already had in my home. You definitely don't need to go buy new wine glasses or new flatware, but the idea is to use what you have and accent with a few inexpensive items to really personalize your holiday dinners.

I hope I was able to inspire you to create a beautiful table setting this holiday!
